I use two main steels in my designs - Hardox and Strenx
Hardox and Strenx are steels made by Swedish company SSAB and imported to New Zealand. Hardox is a wear plate, and is widely used in the quarry & mining, earthmoving, road transport, and forestry industries. Hardox is 4-5 times stronger than normal mild steel, and 3-4 times harder. This means that it is far more difficult to dent, bend or scratch - exactly what you want for underbody protection.
Strenx is a high tensile steel that is 2-3 times stronger than mild steel, and extremely tough. It is commonly used in road transport applications where weight savings or extreme strength and toughness are required.
It's because of the high strength of these steels that I can make parts using thinner plate, making them far lighter but still stronger than if they were made of mild steel. Think of it as steel plate made of "Chromoly". It is strong, hard, and tough.
This isn't the 1980s anymore! Advanced steel has come a long way, and Hardox is the toughest wearplate on the planet.
In short: no, it will not crack.
Yes! I've made all sorts of stuff: one-off custom underbody protection, roof trays, wheel adaptors, disk brake rotors, steel targets, and more. If you have an out of the box idea, then get in touch and we can make it happen.
